This course will improve your practical language skills and allow you to gain a strong understanding of how languages work.
You’ll have the opportunity to study translation modules and gain an insight into various aspects of the translation profession. You’ll also learn about the cultures and societies of the countries where your chosen languages are spoken in interactive modules taught in the target language.
The course includes a Professional Training placement abroad, giving you the choice between work, study, or a combination of the two.
You’ll also have the opportunity to begin learning Portuguese from scratch in your second year.

Our flexible BA Modern Languages (Spanish with German) course trains students to become world-class language experts. You’ll study both Spanish and German to a high level. In your final year you will write a dissertation in Spanish and have the opportunity to carry out a research project in German.

The Professional Training placement year gives our students an insight into their subject and career potential, and early access to professional experience. It can be invaluable in developing work-based skills and helping them secure a graduate career.

Applicants with one of these languages at the required grade at A-level can be considered if they would like to study the second language ab initio. Ab initio study will involve additional contact hours and intensive study during the first year of the programme.
Applicants taking an A-level science subject with the Science Practical Endorsement are required to pass the practical element.
GCSE or equivalent: English Language at Grade C(4) and Mathematics at Grade C (4) (or equivalent).
