About this course

We’re one of the UK’s leading universities for modern languages, with our courses ranked in the top 10 by the Guardian University Guide 2020 and our Iberian languages courses have been ranked top five in the UK by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2019.

Our flexible BA Modern Languages (Spanish with German) course trains students to become world-class language experts. You’ll study both Spanish and German to a high level. In your final year you will write a dissertation in Spanish and have the opportunity to carry out a research project in German.

A Professional Training placement provides you with the opportunity to develop your professional, academic and personal potential, equipping you to be adaptable, resilient, globally minded, confident, entrepreneurial and digitally savvy in the workplace. These qualities are widely recognised by employers and many of our students are offered employment on graduation by their placement provider.

The Professional Training placement year gives our students an insight into their subject and career potential, and early access to professional experience. It can be invaluable in developing work-based skills and helping them secure a graduate career.

Language graduates from the University have gone into a wide range of careers. Our graduates over the last few years have secured roles such as:

Associate Finance Consultant, JDX Consulting
Internal Account Manager, Gamma

Applicants with one of these languages at the required grade at A-level can be considered if they would like to study the second language ab initio. Ab initio study will involve additional contact hours and intensive study during the first year of the programme.

Applicants taking an A-level science subject with the Science Practical Endorsement are required to pass the practical element.

GCSE or equivalent: English Language at Grade C(4) and Mathematics at Grade C (4) (or equivalent).
