The molecular biologist studies physiological and pathological molecular mechanisms in living organisms, focusing in particular on the structure and interactions between macromolecules. He also analyzes the functions that DNA, RNA, and proteins carry out within the cell and the organism and the information contents of the genomes; evaluates the relationship between structure and function of macromolecules; studies the effects caused, in the cell and in the organism, by structural and functional alterations of DNA, RNA and proteins, accidental or projected. This figure works in the field of molecular biology, the branch of biology that studies living beings at the level of the molecular mechanisms underlying their physiology, focusing in particular on the interactions between macromolecules, or proteins and nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). [1] In molecular biology, experimental techniques are used that allow the detection, analysis, manipulation, amplification (PCR) and copying (cloning) of nucleic acids. The boundary between molecular biology and related disciplines, such as genetics and biochemistry was initially very clear, while today it is no longer well defined. In fact, a classical definition saw molecular biology as the study of the molecular processes of replication, transcription, splicing and translation of genetic material. Classical genetics, on the other hand, deals with the study of the inheritance of characters, using, for example, mutants: molecular genetics uses techniques and notions of molecular biology in order to study heredity, providing a bridge between these two disciplines. Biochemistry is the study of chemicals and the metabolism of living things.
