About this course
Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of body repair, refinishing or body fitting. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your studies and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the Work Based Learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a written trade assessment.

Course programme
This programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within the motor industry. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 qualification.
The course combines the development of practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace.
What will I Learn?
The type of work carried out in the workplace will determine the choice between body repair, refinishing or body fitting. Students will complete six units, including ‘generic’ units relating to good housekeeping, health and safety and maintaining positive working relationships. Additional units include:
- Remove and Replace Non-structural Body Panels and Components
- Remove and Fit Basic MetComponents to Vehicles (Body Fitting)
- Remove, Renew and Refit Met Units Within Vehicle Systems (Body Fitting)
- Repair Non-structural Body Panels and Components (Body Repair)
- Prepare Vehicle Panels for Application of Foundation Coats
- Prepare and Apply Vehicle Foundation Coats
As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.

What can I do next?
Following further training and development, career pathways may include progression to roles such as senior paint technician, body shop advisor or service advisor or possible progression to an Advanced Apprenticeship.

Considering an apprenticeship?

but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
