A City and Guilds intermediate Level 2 course designed to provide the knowledge requirements for apprentices following the related Light Vehicle Maintenance and Repair Apprenticeship framework. Learners will study the principles of Mechanical and Electronic systems used in Motor Vehicle Technology whilst undertaking associated repair tasks.

As from 14 October 2016, learners who have achieved a qualification recognised as an alternative to Essential Skills, as detailed under the apprenticeship framework, are not required to undertake Essential Skills qualification. However, if a learner’s WEST assessment identifies that the learner has essential skills deficits which would inhibit progress through the framework, this needs to be addressed.

About this course
Successful learners who are also following an apprenticeship programme or secured the necessary work experience may have the opportunity to progress on to the VRQ Level 3 in Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair.
Applicants will be enrolled on the associated apprenticeship framework or have access to regular industry based work experience in the associated sector.
Where necessary applicants may be required to undertake an aptitude test prior to entry.

Course programme
The course is delivered through practical demonstrations which are supported with realistic working tasks, where the emphasis is on you undertaking training and demonstrating the required skills. Underpinning knowledge for each unit is given via classroom based mode of delivery, where you are encouraged to participate in a range of learner centered activities.
Learners are assessed in a variety of ways including practical activities, multi-choice online examinations and participation in portfolio and assignment work.
Please note that, when carrying out an apprenticeship scheme, you will attend four days a week at your work placement and one day a week in college to gain the knowledge required to gain the full qualification. Support will be given to students to find suitable work placements.
