Motor Vehicle Paint Operations Intermediate Apprenticeship

This programme is designed to give you the relevant training and education required to become a successful employee within the motor industry. Learning through practical and theory sessions at College is teamed with work-based experience and training in order to achieve a level 2 qualification.

Course Content

The course combines developing your practical and theoretical skills at College, together with experience gained in the workplace. Units include:

• Good Housekeeping


• Health and Safety


• Maintaining Positive Working Relationships


• Preparing Vehicles and Panels to Accept Foundation and Top Coats


• Prepare and Apply Foundation Materials to Vehicles


• Repair Minor Vehicle Paint Defects


• Valet Vehicles

As part of the Apprenticeship framework you will also study Employment Rights and Responsibilities, and Functional Skills in English, maths and ICT.

What are the entry requirements?

Candidates should have a strong interest in the area of paint operations. You will need to be dedicated and committed to your study and be responsible for your own learning. You will be required to attend an interview with the work based learning team and be asked to complete basic skills assessments in literacy and numeracy followed by a paper based trade assessment. It is compulsory for all students to attend a four day taster session which will take place in summer 2010. Students on this course are required to be employed in a suitable work placement with a motor paint operations company and have four GCSEs (grades A*-D), or equivalent, including English and maths.

Considering an apprenticeship?

You can apply for both an apprenticeship, and a full-time course as your back up,
but note that you will need to do some research to find an employer willing to take you on as an apprentice
if you do not already have one.
