Postgraduate research study in nanomaterials science provides an opportunity to engage in rigorous scholarly pursuit, and contribute original research to a body of academia.
Students are able to advance their knowledge of nanomaterials science, while developing their research skills and working with specialists in the field. Throughout the programme, students may have the opportunity to develop national and international collaborations.
Specialist computational facilities and training programmes are designed to enhance research skills, together with support from dedicated academic supervisors. Students are encouraged and supported to submit papers to international scientific journals, present findings at conferences, and share knowledge with colleagues across the University.

Course programme
Due to the nature of postgraduate research programmes, a significant portion of time is spent in independent study and research. Scheduled meetings academic supervisors will vary depending on your individual requirements, subject area, staff availability, and the stage of the programme.
How You Are Assessed
A MPhil/PhD is usually awarded based on the quality of the student’s thesis and ability to present and successfully defend their chosen research topic in an oral examination (viva voce). They are also expected to demonstrate how their research findings have contributed to knowledge or developed existing theory or understanding.
