About this course

The course includes a number of self-contained, taught modules organised around the various areas of mechatronics engineering. There are a wide range of modules from which the students can choose from which includes: Highway and Railway Engineering, Automation and Robotics, Smart Industries and Digital Manufacturing, Intelligent Transport Systems, Wireless Signal Propagation and Machine Learning on Big Data

The taught modules are complemented by a research dissertation project that you will undertake at the end of your course. This dissertation is your route to becoming an accredited chartered engineer.

There is a highly practical emphasis to our MSc. You will learn the theory and then apply it through working on projects in our extensive laboratories and during fieldwork.

These projects will provide you with the learning opportunities and practical skills you will need in your future career. You will graduate with a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the most up-to-date practices in mechatronics engineering.

There is an acknowledged shortage of skilled mechatronics engineers with the right qualifications and experience. We have designed this course to fill this skills gap and give you a competitive edge when it comes to your career.

Some potential destinations for students are, aerospace, automotive, railways, defence, manufacturing and marine engineering. In your career you will design, develop, maintain and manage engineering systems that have the cutting-edge sophisticated technology. You will have a key role in areas such as design, research, and development, sales, production management, safety, and quality. You could apply new solutions to industrial problems using mechanical and electronic engineering and computer technology; such as for robotic vehicles for underwater exploration.

Our Docklands location means that we are uniquely placed for links to industry employers, and we have strong contacts with organisations in the local area, including Crossrail, Thames Water and the London Borough of Newham.

Within our School we also have a dedicated careers advisory service as well as an active alumni network able to facilitate contact with prospective employers.

Minimum 2:2 BEng Honours or 2:1 BSc Honours in Engineering.
We would normally expect you to have Grade C in GCSE English and Maths.
