Course description
If you’re a recent graduate or career-minded professional, this course can offer you the combination of a higher academic and a professional qualification designed to enhance your career prospects and make you stand out to prospective employers.
We combine Cisco certification training with masters level teaching. You can also take associated Cisco exams to become a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA). Your first attempt at taking the examinations is free of charge.
During the first nine months, you study intensively at the University.
This allows you to
• gain a thorough understanding of current best practice in the theory and application of leading edge networking technologies using associated tools and techniques
• improve your employment and career potential by combining academic study and professional training
• develop your professional and managerial skills in IT systems in organisations
• gain an insight into how businesses use different networking and IT technologies to meet their needs
In the last three months, you study a research module and do a research project leading to a dissertation.
Professional recognition
The course involves Cisco training and you can take the associated Cisco certification examinations. These lead to the award of Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).

About this course

Combine academic study with professional qualifications on a course that offers both masters and Cisco certification. As part of the course you can take the associated Cisco exams to become a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) free of charge. You study intensively at the University for nine months followed by a three month research project to develop the skills and qualifications needed to progress in the industry.

You should have a good honours degree in computing or a related discipline such as communications or electronic engineering.
If you do not have a good first degree we will consider your application if you have extensive work experience and other formal and professional qualifications in network related subjects.
You may also be able to claim credit points which can reduce the amount of time it takes to complete your qualification at Sheffield Hallam. Find out more

Course structure

Full time – September start – typically 12 or 18 months

Part time – September start – typically 36 months

Other modules

At MSc stage you take a research practice module and do a substantial research project leading to a dissertation.
