Organizational Psychology

I liked the fact of having the opportunity to use the skills developed in real-world situations. It is always difficult to gain experience, so to actually be able to say I have had consultancy experience in a range of settings has definitely put me ahead of others in the job-hunt.

My favourite element of the course is the applied focus. Every module include an element of real world application and we have lots of practising consultant guest lecturers to tell us about their career paths and roles. I enjoyed the consultancy projects we have undertaken, including the Leaders’ Challenge.

I obtained true insights into a wide range of business topics and I also learned to approach them in a critical way. I enjoyed the dissertation project, throughout which we had to think as both a researcher and consultant.

Course programme
In each semester you’ll study a range of modules that develop your knowledge of key aspects of organizational psychology.
You’ll be introduced to the individual, team and organisational factors that affect workplace behaviours such as decision-making and teamwork. You’ll explore the selection and training methods use by organisations to recruit, develop and retain talent and the design of complex human-technical systems.
From there you’ll study contemporary business priorities such as organisational development and change, as well as approaches to career development and performance management. A further module will put you in real-life business situations to help you develop your commercial awareness and professional skills.
Throughout the year you’ll develop your understanding of research design and analysis in psychology and social sciences, especially behavioural research. This will develop your skills to prepare you for your dissertation – the independent research project on your choice of topic that you’ll submit by the end of the year.
