Overview At a glance This qualification covers the skills and knowledge required to perform a range of laboratory techniques to conduct tests and sampling in a variety of industry sectors across a range of industries. Application Mode Distance Courses/Units Seventeen (17) units must be successfully completed - six (6) core units and eleven (11) electives. (minimum of 5 electives from Group A) Availability Distance Education Duration12 months Intake Dates Enrolments are taken throughout the year on a continuous basis. Hours of Study Approximately 1125 hours of study time will be involved however, the training duration will depend on the electives and study mode selected. Career Opportunities Employment outcomes targeted by this qualification include laboratory technicians, instrument operators and similar personnel. This course builds on skills and knowledge developed at Certificate III level. Entry Requirements Direct entry is available. Credit may be gained by completing MSL30109 Certificate III in Laboratory Skills. Typically this course is used to prepare new employees or develop the skills of existing workers. Offerings Distance Education

This course is available by Distance Education (online).

Students who choose to complete the course externally should be working in a laboratory or must attend the practical blocks at the end of each term at CQUniversity Mackay Ooralea campus to complete the practical component of the course.

Practical Blocks - CQUniversity, Mackay Ooralea Campus - 17-21 October 2017.

Distance students require self-motivation and must have 4-6 hours per week available for study for each unit. Because this course is self-paced students need reasonably good literacy skills to readily and follow text books. Basic numeracy skills are also required.

Resources for external students are emailed to student.
