Overview

Managing Successful Programmes (MSPTM) certified Practitioners and Advanced Practitioners need to undertake the APMG's Re-registration exam every 3-5 years in order to retain their certified status.

Re-registration has become particularly important following the significant ‘Refresh' of the MSPTM manual in 2007. SPOCE's newly updated and accredited distance learning product MSPTM Passport is the ideal way to convert and / or refresh your MSPTM Practitioner level knowledge. If you can't make time to attend a SPOCE event, there are now options for you to update your MSPTM knowledge and complete the Re-registration exam.

MSPTM Re-registration Exams

Re-registration exams are available for both Practitioner and Advanced Practitioner. A candidate will only be required to sit the Re-registration exam for the highest level of qualification they have achieved. For example, a candidate who holds the Advanced Practitioner certificate would only be required to take the Re-registration exam for this level.

The format of the Practitioner Re-registration exam is:

3 questions, with a scenario background and appendices.

  • Each of the 3 questions is worth 20 marks
  • An overall score of 30 out of a possible 60 is required to pass
  • One hour duration
  • Open-book examination (MSP™ Manual only).

The format of the Advanced Practitioner Re-registration is:

A 2000 – 4000 word "dissertation" (suggested target 2500 words) on a specific subject (selected from a range of topics) demonstrating application of MSP™. It would ideally be based on a "real life" programme that the candidate has worked within. If this is not possible (if a candidate has not recently worked within a programme or their programme contains classified information), it would be acceptable to base it on the Advanced Practitioner Case Study "MSP Care". There are no time restrictions imposed on this dissertation. The dissertation will be marked out of a possible 75 marks with the candidate needing 38 marks to achieve a pass.

The Revision day (Exam Preparation Event) is a one day event held in London . It provides an opportunity for delegates to revise key areas of the MSPTM Guidance and discuss these with a delegate peer group. The event will work through various example Practitioner questions and consider the reasoning behind the answers, developing a deeper understanding of the application of the Guidance. Delegates will also be able to become familiar with the Objective Testing Exam (OTE) format and consider various exam approaches and strategies.

Changes to the MSPTM Manual and Qualifications

The MSP™ Guidance was significantly updated and a new ‘Refresh’ version published in September 2007. The MSP™ qualifications were also re-named.

  • Foundation - remains known as Foundation
  • Intermediate - became Practitioner
  • Practitioner - became Advanced Practitioner

Alongside this, the format of the new Practitioner exam also changed to the Objective Testing Exam (OTE) format. All SPOCE training courses and distance learning materials have been rewritten in line with this revised guidance.
