The course examines contemporary issues and practices, including those relating to collections management, interpretation, audiences and exhibition. You will study taught modules covering critical analysis and creative practice, and conduct research around the broad themes and subjects addressed by each module. As well as working with our own in-house museums - Stanley Picker Gallery and Dorich House Museum - we work with four external institutions each year to develop real-world museum projects. Our partners include the Museum of London, National Maritime Museum, V&A, English Heritage, Turner's House Trust, Brooklands Museum, Salisbury Museum, Kingston Museum and Heritage Service, Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art and Freud Museum, London.

About this course
This course provides an interdisciplinary study of museums and galleries. It offers a range of approaches to teaching and assessment based on the concept of creative research. You will engage in creative projects and conduct practice-based research with our museum partners.
The dissertation allows you to develop your own interests and gain valuable research skills and offers the option of conducting practice-bsaed projects including events and exhibitions.
Field visits and activities supplement your lectures and seminars. The course extends your opportunities to meet and wok alongside museum sector professionals.
Alongside your academic studies, you develop workplace skills in:
problem solving and organisation;
data collation, review and synopsis;
communication (oral, written and electronic);
time management;
computing; and
collaboration and teamwork.
We offer a part-time study option to help you fit your MA around other commitments and a placement option in which you can grow your career in cultural and creative industries.
