Profile Our Museum Practice MPrac, the first in the UK and internationally, blends theory with work-based placements to extend and complement your Museum Studies MA. You will gain essential and relevant work experience in the museum sector, applying theoretical frameworks within a work-based context.

Course programme
A flexible mixture of taught modules and a possible work-based placement will provide you with a unique blend of theoretical knowledge, understanding and practical experience.
Year 1You take 100 credits of compulsory modules and then follow either Route 1 or Route 2.
Compulsory modules- MCH8501 Understanding Challenges in Museum/Gallery/Heritage Studies
- MCH8504 Caring for 'Collections' in the Museum/Gallery/Heritage Sector
- MCH8503 Communicating and Learning in Museum/Gallery/Heritage Studies
- MCH8502 Managing Projects in the Museum/Gallery/Heritage Sector
- MCH8532 Understanding Academic and Applied Research in Museum/Gallery/Heritage Studies
You take 80 credits in total of optional modules
- MCH8511 Working on a Project in the Museum/Gallery/Heritage Sector
Followed by one of the modules given below:
- MCH8599 Research Dissertation or
- MCH8601 Research – Vocationally-Orientated Project or
- MCH8600 Museum, Gallery, Heritage Professional Practice and Research
You take 80 credits in total of optional modules
- MCH8516 Museum, Gallery, Heritage Practice
Followed by one of the modules given below:
- MCH8599 Research Dissertation or
- MCH8601 Research – Vocationally-Orientated Project
You will undertake a supervised and monitored 36 week work-based placement in an institution, organisation or agency related to heritage practice. Placements can be in the UK or abroad, depending upon availability. We will set up the placement for you, based on the submission of a project agreed between you, your tutor and the placement host organisation.

Entry Requirements
A 2:1 honours degree, or an international equivalent, in any subject.
We will also consider your application if you have lower or non-standard qualifications and relevant professional experience in the museum, gallery and heritage sectors.
If you have borderline or non-standard qualifications we may contact you to request more information. We may ask you to attend an interview either in person, via telephone or Skype.
