About this course

For 2010 entry 300 points which must include two A Levels or equivalent.
For 2011 entry 320 points of which 200 are BB or equivalent.
Level 3 advanced diploma in Creative & Media considered
A minimum of DMM from a BTEC 18 unit National Diploma
Preferred subjects: Computing, IT, Maths, Physics, Music Technology, Science/Technology
Recommended GCSEs: 4 at grade C minimum including Maths and English
If English is not your first language: IELTS 6.0 (Academic) or above.

Course Overview

This course forms part of our Creative Technology Framework.


This course focuses on the application of hardware and software technologies to create music and audio for inclusion in state of the art entertainment systems.

In addition to using the studios at BU you will have the opportunity to practice in a professional external studio for an allocated period of time.

In this course you will be taught technical aspects of aspects of music/audio and recording technology, enabling you firstly to specify, characterise, integrate and apply music technology at all levels in studios, theatre, concerts, TV and radio, sound for multimedia applications etc. Secondly, play a key role in enabling the process of music creation, recording and audio post production and mastering.

The School of Design, Engineering and Computing has a well established advanced technology base with expertise in electronics, multimedia, computing, psychology and product design. This unique mix of academic disciplines combined with expertise available in the Media School enables the University to offer a truly comprehensive music technology and recording programme, that links the technological and creative perspectives with factors, such as, the human perception of sound, to integrate audio/music systems for the design of new audio/music solutions.
