About this course

Many students progress to read music at leading conservatoires/universities throughout the UK with an ever-increasing range of musical subjects being introduced at degree level, the opportunity to find a course that is virtually 'tailor-made' for the individual student has never been so buoyant.
Post-degree, former students have been fortunate enough to find gainful employment as performers, composers, music journalists, teachers and recording engineers to name but a few potential avenues of exploration.

Grades A or B in Music at GCSE or grade V Theory (ABRSM)
The ability to read staff notation on this course is essential.

Course programme

The course is delivered in several, hour long sessions. Much like the 'traditional' A Level scenario, each lecture will be dedicated to a specific area of the course, allowing all modules to develop in parallel.

Assessments for this subject can come in the form of 'verbal' monitoring during sessions or through specially designed tests and work with past examination papers (all this, of course, culminates with the summer examination).

The performance elements are subject to two internal 'mock practical' examinations at various points in the academic year in (addition to the final, externally assessed, recital).

Additional information

The Music department has enjoyed many excursions to view concerts throughout the UK. Some of these have included Jerry Goldsmith conducting selections of his film music with the London Symphony Orchestra, Howard Shore presenting his incredible 'Lord of the Rings Symphony' with the London Philharmonic and Ennio Morricone, conducting a variety of his pieces at the Royal Albert Hall. Whenever the opportunity arises, we will endeavour to seek out concerts that will prove to be both educational and enjoyable for the students while, simultaneously, keeping the financial cost to them at a minimum.
