This two year course is designed to be as practical as possible giving you a foundation in all aspects of music performance and production. You will spend the majority of your time working on solo instrumental/vocal techniques, developing an understanding of ensemble work and live performance. You will also study music from the past 100 years.

Course programme

The course provides an understanding of live sound, events management, studio recording technologies, marketing/promotion within the music industry and many other skills. You will also develop the technical skills and repertoire required to plan and organise a major music event.


Further study at university in a related subject such as a BA in Music or BSc in Music Technology. Careers in roles such as studio engineers, music journalists and professional musicians.

Five GCSEs at grade C or equivalent qualifications for example, Level 2 in Music (Merit grade). Subject to interview and audition

Additional information

All equipment is provided for ensemble and solo music units. We have two fully equipped recording studios and five fully equipped rehearsal studios, which include drum kits, guitar and bass amplification, as well as, a wide range of electric guitars, bass guitars and acoustic guitars. Students are provided with all equipment for composition workshops, including professional standard headphones. A studio fee of £75 will be paid per year.
