Introduction:
People with an interest in the Music Profession including session musicianship, performance, composing, recording, audio editing, production, and multi-media sound will benefit from access to excellent studio and computer music facilities.

Study Mode & Location:
This two-year full time course will be held at Preston College, Park Campus, Moor Park Avenue, Preston, PR1 6AS.

Course Content:
Both Music Technology & Music Practice students will study:

• Sound recording
• Listening skills
• Sound & music industry
• Music sequencing
• Composing
• Pop music in practice
• Operating live sound
• Special subject investigation
• The music freelance world
• Music in society
• Arranging

In addition, each course has several specialised units:

Music Technology

• Music technology in performance
• Sound creation & manipulation
• Creating and marketing a music product
• Planning a music recording
• Computer music systems
• Music & sounds for multi-media

Music Practice

• Music performance session styles
• Working and developing as a musical ensemble
• Music theory & harmony
• Major music project
• Planning a music project
• Working with music notation software packages

Assessment:
Practical, theoretical and written assessment is compulsory on this course.

Careers & Progression Opportunities:
Successful completion of this course allows progression to Degrees, Foundation Degrees or Higher National Diplomas in related subject areas.

You may also look for employment in music or media sectors.

How To Apply

Part-Time+ Route
You will need to complete a Further Education Application Form. These will be available from mid-May.
Many courses have limited places so please return your application form as soon as possible. Following acceptance of your application, the earliest you may enrol is mid-June.

Part-Time Only Route
You will need to have an informal interview with a Adult Admissions Adviser.

Depending upon your circumstances, you may be able to study for FREE or at a reduced price.

Part-Time+ Course Benefits
Part-Time+ courses are ideal if you are looking to return to education, change career or progress to higher level studies. Courses last between 11 and 18 hours per week, for a full year and fit in with school hours and holidays. They offer:
