Programme Description:
This is a two year Level 3 programme which focuses on developing skills and creativity in Music Technology. The programme aims to develop learners’ creative and technical skills to enable them to gain employment within the fields of the creative industries. Learners are encouraged to be independent, inquiring and capable of responding to set projects and developing self-initiated work.
Throughout the programme learners will visit trade fairs and exhibitions within the UK. Live projects and competitions form an important part of the course. Learners will complete a 90 credit Diploma in year 1 and subject to satisfactory progress, a 120 credit Diploma or 180 credit Extended Diploma in year 2. As part of the programme learners will also complete the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate. Opportunities will also be provided for re-sit GCSEs in English or Mathematics.

Progression and Employment:
Students who successfully complete the one year Diploma will be offered a place on the year two programme
The college has forged strong links with higher education providers and progression rates are very high onto courses such as BA Music/BSc Music Technology. Past students are working in a variety of roles such as live sound engineers, sound and visual editors and professional musicians

Course programme
Programme Features:
- Students are taught on industry standard equipment by lecturers who are current professionals within their subject areas
- Learners all have access to designated Apple Mac rooms each with 17 workstations, with access to three well-equipped recording studios
- The department houses the Roland Music Academy
- All learners have access to the Music Performance Academy
- Links with both universities and industry have been developed via the department's Industry Consultative Panel and partnership with Roland UK
- Learners participate in local and National competitions
- As a Roland Academy, the are visits to trade fairs along with visits and workshops by visiting industry practitioners
Programme Content:
The Edexcel BTEC Level 3 Music Technology Course is made up of 17 units.
The first year units include: Listening Skills for Music Technologists, Music Production Techniques, Sequencing Systems and Techniques, The Sound and Music Industry, Studying Music from Around the World, Music Performance Techniques, Music Theory and Harmony, Live Sound Techniques and Music Video Production.
Second Year Units include: Planning and Delivering a Music Product, Acoustics for Musicians, Audio Engineering Principles, Arranging Music, Marketing and Promotion in the Music Industry, Music and Sounds for the Moving Image, Music Technology in Performance and Sound Creation and Manipulation.
