The Bachelor of Music Therapy degree program prepares students for careers as music therapists. The program provides the interdisciplinary and clinical training necessary to meet the emotional, mental and physical health care needs of clientele. Music therapists may work in a variety of settings - in private practice or on staff at hospitals, hospices, schools or other facilities. While salaries vary according to location, employment opportunities are increasing nationwide, particularly in preventative, innovative and gerontological services. Music therapy, among other allied health care professions, has been identified in Field’s 100 Best Careers as a promising career.
This program is designed to satisfy the current educational requirements prescribed by the AMTA and NASM. The baccalaureate program of music therapy consists of four (4) years of academic work, followed by a six-month, full-time, off-campus internship. It is designed for those desiring a career in music therapy. Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the examination of the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT). Qualified applicants will be eligible to receive the MT-BC credential.
The program consists of four years of academic work, followed by a six-month, full-time, off-campus internship. In addition, supervised clinical experiences are an integral part of the curriculum. While in the program, students will take courses that focus on music theory, the psychology of music, conducting and music history. Graduates of this program will be eligible to sit for the Certification Board of Music Therapists (CBMT). Qualified applicants will also be eligible to receive the MT-BC credential.
