Certificate Course of the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses (NEBDN)
Aim:
This course prepares candidates for the National Certificate examination set by the NEBDN, for either of the two examination diets of November or May.
Length of Study:
From 7 months for the experienced dental nurse, and up to 2 years for the beginner.
Entry Requirements:
No formal requirements but must work in a Dental Practice.
Contents:
The syllabus of the NEBDN Certificate, namely: - The Duties and Role of the Dental Nurse; Reception, Clerical and Administrative Duties; Anatomy and Physiology; Dental Anatomy and Physiology; Pathology and Microbiology; Causes and Prevention of Dental Disease; Sterilisation; Instruments and Equipment; Dental Drugs and Materials; Restorative Dentistry; Minor Oral Surgery; Orthodontics; Anaesthesia; Emergencies; Dental Radiography; Health and Safety at Work Act.
Study Method:
By distance learning from provided material, 16 lessons covering each of the topics given in the examination syllabus. (Videos on the spotter test and intravenous sedation procedures, audio tape on examination format on loan.)
Assessment:
At the end of each lesson there are a variety of self-assessment tasks. Also, there are 5 set tests plus a mock final examination, all marked and returned by the tutor.
Comments:
In order to qualify for the award of the National Certificate, a dental nurse must have completed at least twenty-four months full-time (or equivalent part-time) employment at the chairside. The qualification will not be awarded until the certified completion of the stipulated twenty-four months.
Cost:
£600 inclusive of record of experience and NEBDN exam. Fee waiver not appplicable for this course.
