About this course

By law, Security staff are required to be over 18 years of age. They must not have been convicted of any serious or relevant offences within the past five years. You must have a good understanding of written and spoken English. Assistance can be given to students who have English as a second language or learning difficulties.

The course will enable you to apply for a SIA Licence which will allow you to work as a security officer, keyholder, event worker or a door supervisor.

Information about the course

This course runs once a month either Mon-Thurs or over 2 x Sat and Sun.

Course content

The Course is divided into two modules.

Unit One: Roles and Responsibilities (15 hours)

Unit Two: Conflict Management (15 hours)

Unit one is tutor led but unit two is more interactive with some role play.

Unit One equips you with a working knowledge to carry out a security role in the workplace covering, licensing regulations, health and safety, civil and criminal law, and licensing knowledge, behavioural standards, customer service, young persons, searching, offensive weapons, etc.

Unit Two: teaches you to:-

Identify possible conflict situations, how to manage, avoid and defuse potential volatile situations, as well as resolving conflict and learning from conflict.

Assessment

Part One: Multiple Choice of 40 Questions, 28 must be answered correctly to gain a pass.

Part Two: Multiple choice of 40 questions based on 4 video clips. 24 questions must be answered correctly to gain a pass.

Both exams are one hour in duration. You must pass both parts to be able to apply for a SIA Licence to enable you to work in the security industry.

Progression

Passing this course entitles you to work in door supervision, as a security officer, retail security officer and event stewarding.

Payment options: UK/EU Fee : £99.00 Overseas Fee : £235.00 Part-time enrolments are subject to an additional annual registration fee of £10 payable once only per academic year (exemptions may apply).
