Course Aims:
This course introduces candidates to the uniformed and emergency services. It includes investigating the different uniformed and emergency services and the roles and responsibilities of those working in a specific service team. Students will investigate career opportunities in the uniformed and emergency services. Central to the course is developing the employability skills valued by employers in these areas.

Course Content:
Uniformed & Emergency Services: An Introduction. Uniformed & Emergency Services: Health, Safety, Fitness & Well-being. Uniformed & Emergency Services: Engaging with the Community. Uniformed & Emergency Services: Working in Teams. Psychology. Communication. Numeracy. Study Skills. Problem Solving. Guest Speakers from the services. Excursions to a number of places relevant to the sector.

Progression Opportunities:
This course may provide candidates with opportunities to progress to Further Education, training and employment.

Career Potential:
Uniformed services specific to this course are: the Army, Merchant Navy, Royal air Force, Royal Navy and Royal Marines. Emergency services specific to this course are: the Ambulance Service, Coastguard, Fire and Rescue and Police.

Course Assessment:
The course is assessed by a range of unit assessments including closed-book examinations, projects, reports and essays.
