About this course
Three Standard Grades, preferably English, Science, Maths or Technical subjects, a National Certificate in a related discipline or equivalent. Those without formal qualifications, but significant work experience will be considered.

Course Aims:
This course is designed to prepare candidates for a range of technical and managerial careers in Built Environment disciplines. It builds upon previous study and work-based experience, and is directly relevant to the individual professions in which candidates are working, or in which they intend to work, enabling candidates to make an immediate contribution in one of the Built Environment disciplines.
Course Content:
The course consists of eight mandatory and four optional units:
- Building Design & Technology
- Building Services in Domestic Low-rise Buildings
- Computer Aided Drawing in Construction
- Health & Safety in the Building Industry
- Construction Materials: An Introduction
- Mechanics for Construction: An Introduction
- Modern Methods of Construction
- Sustainability in the Building
Upon successful completion, candidates will have a widely recognised qualification and the opportunity to progress within the industry, or to articulate onto further academic study at HNC level.
Career Potential:
Opportunities exist across the broad range of technical disciplines within the industry including technical trainees, technicians and managerial careers.
Course Assessment:
Course assessment is undertaken continuously throughout the college session. This may include open/closed book, case study, graphical and written communications, portfolio building, group work and class presentation.
