About this course

While there are no formal requirements, candidates would benefit from studying a music course such as NC Rock & Pop Music or Standard Grade music and should have an interest and some experience of music making and/or composition. Selection is by audition and interview. Those wishing to study composition would be expected to submit a recording of their work.

Course Aims:
This course will develop a grounding for further study and provide the skills and knowledge to succeed in the music industry. Students will develop their musical performance skills, an understanding of the music industry and employment opportunities within it. You will learn the basics of recording techniques, MIDI sequencing and receive tuition on a chosen instrument. It is possible to study composition as a first study instead of an instrument.

Course Assessment:
Assessment is on a continuous basis where each module is broken down into separate performance criteria. The main emphasis of the course is on practical assessment however certain modules are project/research based and are assessed through submitted written work.
