Course programme

The qualification is divided into two units, each of which is assessed separately:

  • Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities (NCC1)
  • Construction health and safety practical application (NCC2)

The NEBOSH Construction Certificate course syllabus is made up of the following units:

Unit NCC1: Managing and Controlling Hazards in Construction Activities

  • Element 1: Construction law and management
  • Element 2: Construction site - hazards and risk control
  • Element 3: Vehicle and plant movement - hazards and risk control
  • Element 4: Musculoskeletal hazards and risk control
  • Element 5: Work equipment - hazards and risk control
  • Element 6: Electrical safety
  • Element 7: Fire safety
  • Element 8: Chemical and biological health - hazards and risk control
  • Element 9: Physical and psychological health - hazards and risk control
  • Element 10: Working at height - hazards and risk control
  • Element 11: Excavation work and confined spaces - hazards and risk control
  • Element 12: Demolition and deconstruction - hazards and risk control

Unit NCC2: Construction Health and Safety Practical Application

This accredited NEBOSH qualification is assessed by an exam lasting 2 hours and a workplace-based practical inspection project. The exam is conducted in the centre where you studied NCC1. The practical assignment is completed in the workplace; the practical assignment should take no longer than four hours to complete and you will have 10 days from the end of the course to return it to us by email.

Those who successfully complete the course and pass the assessments are awarded the official NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety. Certificates are forwarded to the candidate by us approximately 16 weeks after completion of the course although results are usually issued within 12 weeks.

Our NEBOSH courses are run as full-time block courses, usually Monday to Friday 9:00 am until approximately 5:00 pm. Whilst other health and safety training providers may attempt to offer the NEBOSH courses in other formats, such as e-learning, distance learning, one day a week/month etc, in our experience we have consistently found that full-time block courses with exams scheduled afterwards make for a significantly improved likelihood of delegates passing the assessments first time around.
