We aim to provide students with sufficient knowledge and skills to enable them to operate immediately at a professional level in IT sectors of commerce and industry. A degree in Networking and Security will equip the students with academic and practical skills essential in today's economic climate, that requires employees to have more than a specialised focus.
The course will enable students to develop secure network and communication systems, preparing them in playing their part in defense against cybercrime.
All members of the course team are educated to at least degree level in their subject area. Most have Masters degrees in their specialist subject area. They have extensive industrial/commercial experience or long experience of teaching in higher education.

The BSc(Hons) Networking & Security comprises 5 modules consisting of :
Dissertation Project - this is a double module - Students will be expected to and carry out an in depth critical analysis of a particular area of IT with a view to producing a thesis.
Research Skills - this module will equip you with all the skills necessary to undertake a major project. It will develop knowledge and understanding of the use of appropriate research methods. Also select and apply appropriate research methods for an independent study.
Project -- this is a double module - Students will be expected to carry out an in depth critical analysis of a particular area of IT with a view to producing a thesis or showcase
Research skills - this module will equip you with all the skills necessary to undertake a major project.
Database Administration (Optional) - will provide you with a solid foundation in basic database administration.
Lecture topics are reinforced with structured hands-on practices that will prepare you for a database administrative role.
Project management (Optional) - providing an easily tailored and scalable project management methodology for the management of all types of projects. The methods covered are the de-facto standards for project management in the UK and are practiced worldwide
Virtualisation Technologies - will equip administrators with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to build and run a Virtualized environment. This module focuses on the installation, configuration, management and design of networks, hosts and virtual machines.
Information Security- this module will give you the skills and knowledge necessary to develop policies and procedures in information security.
The module covers critical topics in security today, including cloud computing, mobile security, application development security, risk management and more You will gain a nationally recognized and highly portable IT qualification, which will develop your specific subject knowledge, give you a range of new skills and build your self-confidence.
