Course programme

Sponsored in memory of Bertie Black

The Human Race is on a course that is likely to lead to extinction, through trying to ‘cure’ violence with more violence. There is hope that we can counter the prejudice and bigotry, by promoting learning through dialogue, so that “Never Again” can become a reality. We will study genocide from the standpoint that violence between people cannot be totally eradicated, but we can take measures to understand and contain it

. • From Cain and Abel to Genocide and Jihad • The Armenian Genocide and the Holocaust • The Problem of Aggression and Torture • Trauma and its Sequellae • Blindness and Denial • Reconciliation, Forgiveness and Redemption

With Ruth Barnett. Ruth is a psychotherapist and former secondary school teacher. She is Life President of the Raphael Jewish Counselling Service and is currently a member of the LJCC Anti-racism team who, as part of Holocaust education, gives talks in schools. She was a four-year old kindertransportee and her book "Person Of No Nationality" which describes her experience, will be published in 2010.
