Advantages of studying here

Our Tutors are Deaf BSL users, and are experienced in teaching BSL. The classes are small, and learners will often work in smaller groups or with partners, enabling them to develop their skills and build their confidence in a friendly and supportive environment.

Description

Nottinghamshire Deaf Society (NDS) is a registered charity that owns and runs a Community Centre for Deaf people of all ages and for their families. We were established in 1864 and have been based in our beautiful Victorian Building on Forest Road West, Nottingham since 1931.

For Deaf people whose first and preferred language is BSL access to most mainstream services is denied due to communication barriers and a lack of understanding of needs. Our facilities and activities are fully accessible to deaf and disabled people.

The Community Centre provides a ‘deaf friendly’ space where deaf people can meet, socialise, participate in a range of valuable activities, and access specialist services and advice. We offer activities, training and services run by positive Deaf role models, and we focus on ability rather than disability. Our services also include a signposting service for any enquiries about deafness and deaf issues that NDS doesn’t directly offer.
