These are a minimum of three passes at Standard Grade (or equivalent) at band 3. Consideration may be given to those without such entry requirements, dependent on relevant work experience and on the basis of a successful interview with the Course Leader.

NQ Accounting

KEY FEATURES
There will always be a need for Accountants! Every organisation dealing with money uses their services. Accountancy is a career area in itself, but can lead into other job opportunities in industry and commerce, or public and government service. The aim of the NQ programme is to provide learners with a comprehensive introduction to accounting concepts and procedures which lays the basis for further study at HNC/D level. Assessment during the course is by a mixture of continuous assessment and end-of-unit tests, which include theoretical and practical tasks. The main subject areas covered by this course are Financial and Management Accounting with associated units relevant to accountants.

COURSE CONTENT

A selection of core units includes:
Recording of Cash Data; Recording of Credit Data; Recording of Data in the Ledger; Preparing Final Accounts; Maintaining Costing Systems; Financial Accounting (Int. 2); Management Accounting (Int. 2); Applications of Mathematics; Financial Services, Employability Skills; Micro Economics; Introduction to Consumer and Investor Protection; Communications (Int. 2 and Higher).

The European Computer Driving Licence qualification (ECDL), awarded by the British Computer Society, is also included for every learner on the course.

PROGRESSION
Completion of the units in this programme qualifies the learner to progress on to the HNC in Accounting course, which in turn leads to HND, and then possibly a place in a University course. At the end of any stage learners may also gain accountancy related employment within which further study can be undertaken through college or a professional accounting organisation.
