Description
Students on the Child Nursing degree will learn to nurse children, young people and their families in a variety of settings. Students will learn to care for these people when they are ill and also when they are well. They will work as part of the multidisciplinary team in providing evidence-based, individualised care in the health and social sectors.
Students who pursue this career should be able to:
• Work well with children, young people and their families demonstrating respect at all times
• Communicate well with children, young people and their families
• Work effectively as part of a team
• Demonstrate caring, compassionate and non-judgmental behaviour at all times
Students will learn how to:
Provide nursing care to children, young people and their families when they are ill and also when they are in good health
Develop strong collaborative relationships with other professionals in the delivery of health care
Develop clinical, management and leadership skills
Develop a knowledge base from a variety of disciplines, e.g. information from nursing and health care research, ethics, sociology, psychology, politics and law
Develop their emotional intelligence
Students will experience a variety of placements in hospitals, schools and in community settings across South Wales in Swansea, Carmarthen, Bridgend, Haverfordwest and Aberystwyth. Some specialist places are available in the Cardiff area for third year students.

About this course

Entry Requirements
Minimum BBB at A2 level, health or science-related courses desirable. Minimum five grade A-C GCSE passes including Welsh/English language, Maths and a Physical Science or Double Award Science.
In certain circumstances Key Skills Level 3 in Application of Number will be accepted in lieu of GCSE Mathematics and Key Skills Level 3 in Communication will be accepted in lieu of GCSE Welsh/English Language.
