his course will share learning with adult, child and mental health nursing students, where you can develop your skills in caring for people from these areas of nursing with a learning disability.

Topics covered are the factors that affect the health and well-being of individuals in our changing and diverse society, health inequalities and promoting improved health outcomes for people with a learning disability.

At the end of Year 1, you will be offered an opportunity to undertake a national or international placement.

In year 2 you will explore the management of complex conditions across the life span (eg. children, transition, adulthood, the older person and those with dementia) and the analysis and application of research and evidence base. You will also be prepared for the transition to registered nurse

About this course

This course is split into 50% theory and 50% clinical practice.
A focus on learning together with other health and social care professions enhances interprofessional and team working. You will have opportunities for learning with medical, pharmacy, midwifery, physiotherapy, radiography paramedics, social workers and bio-medical science students.
You will gain extensive experience in our well-equipped simulation suites.
Our commitment to blended learning methods includes using e-learning materials to support theory and practice.
Support from personal tutors, academic supervisors, and student support will help you reach your full potential.

and qualified clinical staff who provide teaching, support and assessment of students in practice.
You will have the opportunity to gain clinical experience working within a clinical research placement to gain an insight into clinical trials and the role of clinical research within patient care.
First-year students can develop their community nursing skills on our Alternative Practice Programme. Working in teams, you will explore topics such as mental health and wellbeing and nutrition and sustainability, and prepare a presentation. This project is supported by major industry partners including the London NHS Trust Development Authority and Public Health England.
Through our Heritage 2 Health programme, you will have the opportunity to work with professionals in the creative industries, helping to promote the best care for service users at heritage sites.

This course is for is for students that want to make a difference to the health and wellbeing of people with learning disabilities. It has a strong practical focus and will give you the knowledge and skills you need to become a registered learning disability nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Council.

A health or science-related degree is preferred at 2.2 or above. Health and science-related degrees could include health studies, psychology, physiology, biology, social sciences, or related studies to the above.
A minimum of 500 hours of health or social care related experience undertaken in the 12 months prior to your application. Applicants will be asked to complete an RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) claim form to demonstrate the achievement of 500 hours of recent experience. Successful achievement of this form, along with a testimony, are a condition for entry to the programme.

The Nursing MSc degree confers both an academic award and a professional qualification in nursing. On completion of the programme, you will be recommended to the Nursing and Midwifery Council - for professional registration.

Once qualified, you will have a range of employment opportunities in leading NHS and independent organisations. Staff development and continuing professional development programmes support and encourage life-long learning.
