About the course Child nursing could range from nursing a sick newborn to dealing with accident-related injuries – caring not only for the child, but also their family, in hospital or community settings. Learn about development and care of healthy children/young people, gaining specialist knowledge and skills needed to nurse those in need of acute or long-term care.  Successful completion of this course leads to the award of both an Honours degree and registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a registered nurse, allowing you to practise as a child nurse and in accordance with the NHS Constitution.

The children’s nursing course will prepare for the multi-faceted role required by children and families now and in the future. Classroom, group and self-directed learning will provide the fundamental knowledge and understanding required to care for children and young people of all ages. Through both classroom debate and simulation, you will be prepared for the role of advocate by understanding and applying the strategies by which the voices of children and families are heard and acted on. You will learn and develop safe and effective nursing care that meets the holistic needs of children and families, both through simulation and in a variety of practice settings. You will be able to adapt learned skills to the individual situation, keeping the child and family at the centre of your nursing practice. Looking to the future, the graduate children’s nurse will recognise the value of inter-professional working, using skills of leadership and teamwork alongside excellent nursing principles to influence contemporary and future practice.
