NVQ1 Beauty Therapy

Suitable for applicants who are able to demonstrate commitment and enthusiasm, a professional manner and appearance and an aptitude for working with people.

2 GCSEs (E-G) or Certificate in Salon Services are required, you should be able to demonstrate commitment, the ability to work with people and an interest in fashion, hair and make-up. A satisfactory interview and references are also required.

This is an introductory course to the beauty industry and develops basic practical skills required by industry. Educational visits may include the National Beauty Exhibition. Students are taught in working salons in college, which are open to the public. Key Skills are an integral part of the course.

Beauty Therapy NVQ1 consists of five units.

Prepare and maintain the beauty therapy work areas - BT
1Assist with facial treatments - BT2
Assist with nail treatments on the hands - BT3

Students will be continually assessed through a series of practical, written and oral assessments. Additional evidence will be required through assignment work.
Standards require students to work to a "commercially viable time" - at Level 1 this applies to facial treatment & nail treatment.

NVQ2 Beauty Therapy following successful completion of this programme. Possible careers include working as a receptionist in a salon or beauty sales consultant.
