ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
An interview plus 4 GCSEs at grade C or an NVQ 1 Sport & Recreation Award. Relevant experience/qualifications may be acceptable subject to interview. Mature students, without formal entry qualifications may also be accepted subject to interview. N.B Students must be 18 by July to undertake assessment.
WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This programme will prepare students for employment within a sport/leisure facility or for progression onto higher-level courses.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
This course concentrates on the development of the essential practical skills needed for fitness and exercise teaching. The course consists of a City & Guilds NVQ 2 award in Instructing Exercise and Fitness, and the prestigious Central YMCA Certificate in Fitness Instructing (Gym) Award. Modules will include;
HOW WILL I LEARN?
Attendance will be 4 to 5 days per week. The programme will include weekend and evening study. The course is 50% academic and 50% practical. Achievement is measured by continual assessment and students will undertake individual and group projects.
WHAT CAN THIS COURSE LEAD TO?
Typical employment prospects will include working within Leisure/Recreation Centres, Gym work, Cruise liners, health spa's and Self-Employment. Successful students will be encouraged to progress to the City and Guilds NVQ 3 award in Instructing Physical Activity and Exercise.
