About this course
Must hold NVQ 2 in Hairdressing, you should have a record of good attendance and reports from this qualification It is essential to be working in the industry and receiving salon training and support to a level 3 standard. Requirements are; the ability and the will to succeed, self-motivation and enthusiasm, hard working and being able to work as part of a team.

WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This course is designed for, and targeted at, those people intent on developing their skills to a higher level and being part of the Hairdressing Industry. You will be given the opportunity to learn by doing within this flexible programme.
WHAT WILL I LEARN?
Hairdressing: various fashion cutting techniques to create different hair shapes and styles, corrective colouring/fashion bleaching; permanent waving; total look long hair techniques; consultation and diagnostics; salon organisation; reception skills; health, safety and security; use of computers; retailing; stock control; teamwork; promotional activities; interpersonal skills and junior management skills. Opportunities exist for students to obtain further additional qualifications.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
The programme incorporates demonstration and student participation, including lectures, discussions, projects and self directed study, using a multimedia approach where appropriate. Within the programme, students receive full support in their skill development and acquisition of competence. Specialist learning support is available. Students are assessed through practical observation of skills, questioning and portfolio evidence. It is essential to use photography for POE building and case studies. You will also have the opportunity to take part in Hairdressing Competitions.
Work experience and Professional experience is incorporated within a commercial environment both in college and as a structured work experience programme located in commercial salons, where available. This promotes increased employment opportunities. As part of the course, the college encourages students to attend exhibitions.

There is a varied range of opportunities for those with the right outlook and attitude in the world of hairdressing. Successful students will find outlets for their skills in: salons (as stylists), salon ownership / self employed, health farms, cruise liners, television, films and the fashion industry.
