WHO IS THE COURSE FOR?
This qualification is intended for middle managers who are able to demonstrate competence at the appropriate level in key areas that include managing activities, resources, people and information. It is relevant to people who are responsible for:
  • Allocating work to others
  • Achieving results by using resources effectively
  • Carrying out policy in a defined area of authority
  • Controlling limited financial budgets
  • Contributing to broader activities such as change programmes and recruitment.
It is expected that you will already be at NVQ Level 3 in Management, or equivalent standard, and that you will be working at the appropriate level to commence this programme. Candidates normally progress to this award by means of their organisational experience, role and responsibilities.

What will you learn from this programme?

Depending on the options chosen this programme will enable you to-
  • Obtain optimum performance from operational systems under your control
  • Improve the cost effectiveness of the systems in your area
  • Develop the skills necessary to stimulate people at work to effective levels of performance
  • Identify and use information for the enhancement of both personal and organisational effectiveness
What will you learn?
In order to achieve your NVQ, you will need to complete a total of eight units; five of these are mandatory and three you can choose from a range of units offered by the College and the type of tasks you undertake at work. All units are assessed by observation of your work and evidence of your knowledge and understanding of management. The mandatory units will enable you to-
  • Develop and implement operational plans for your area of responsibility
  • Encourage innovation in your area of responsibility
  • Develop productive working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Ensure health and safety requirements are met in your area of responsibility
  • Manage business processes.
HOW WILL I LEARN?
You will receive an induction together with support in order to put together a portfolio of work for an assessor. You will have the chance to reflect on your own practice and other ways of accomplishing desired outcomes.

Assessment

You will be expected to work through the learning materials at your own pace. It is important to set yourself targets to make sure that you progress steadily through the award. We recognise that you will have a lot of experience and the programme will help you reflect on your own practice. Your assessor will support you by checking your progress with the learning materials and assessing your practice in the workplace. You will have a portfolio of evidence which includes records of your observations, activities and supporting materials.
