What will I study?
The (NVQ) National Vocational Qualification is aimed at developing safe and skilled practices preparing students for work within the construction industry. All students will have to complete external tests where relevant.
How can I progress?
*Students can progress onto higher levels of NVQ for improved employment or promotion prospects; *There is a natural progression within the NVQ framework from NVQ Levels 1-3; *Further progression onto a BTEC National course in Construction is possible.
What will I need to qualify for this course?
In order to qualify for this course, students will need; *To provide an excellent reference from their employer, *A Level 1 NVQ or equivalent, *Proof of working in the Construction Industry and to provide evidence that they can complete a full range of practical work on site, *To be in good health to enable you to achieve all units e.g. scaffolding which requires you to work at height, *This qualification requires the learner to supply relevant, suitable work-based evidence. Students are required to provide a named person from a site who will act as their work based recorder and students must agree to work to College, School and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) regulations. (An informal interview is required.)
Course Structure
In order to gain a full qualification these units will be studied; *Store resources ready for use, *Erect and dismantle working platforms, *Contribute to efficient working practices, *Erect masonary structures, *Set out for masonry structures, *Carry out slinging and signalling for the movement of loads, *Plus bricklayer option provide details to masonry structures, *Tutorial, *Practical, *Theory. Students will be expected to provide their own Pen, Pencil, Scale Ruler, Calculator, Eraser, Steel Toe Capped Boots and Overalls if required.
