This course is for those who wish to progress their career in carpentry and who have ideally achieved their Level 2 qualification. It will enable you to work as a specialist carpenter in the construction industry.
As a specialist carpenter you will cut, shape and install complex fixtures and fittings such as walls, roofs and staircases. You may specialise further in areas such as shop fitting, wheel righting and joinery. You will also learn how to work safely in a supervisory capacity as part of a team building and refurbishing homes or non-domestic properties.

About this course

Having obtained this industry recognised qualification you will be able to progress into a variety of different fields in the construction sector and potentially go into site management. This award will also give you access to Higher Education courses in the built environment or progression into managerial roles within the construction industry.

  • Carry out second fixing double doors and moldings
  • Set up and use fixed and transportable machinery

Learners will attend training on a 'one day per week' basis to study the Diploma in Site Carpentry or Bench Joinery for the practical and theory elements. This includes end of unit practical and multiple-choice tests. Whilst at work you will need to gather evidence of competence for your NVQ qualification. The NVQ is assessed by the gathering of photographic evidence, witness testimonies and on-site visits from your tutor/assessor.

Additional information

Apprentices are assigned a training mentor, who will visit them regularly to ensure they are happy with their progress and that they are on track to achieve. It will take between 12 - 24 months to complete the apprenticeship framework, dependent on ability and prior experience.
