The Level 2 NVQ in Driving Goods Vehicles is suitable for new drivers or for those who have limited experience. It does, however, demand more than that required for the statutory driving test, as it includes competencies in pre-driving checks (including the use of tachographs) and monitoring the loading of goods.
Level 3 is suitable for experienced drivers who can demonstrate a broad range of skills. Learners also have the opportunity to show skills covered in the optional units such as route planning and loading of vehicles.
Learners can work towards units of either qualification whilst developing the knowledge and skills required for the relevant statutory driving test and licence. This means that it is not necessary to hold an appropriate full licence above a category B (car and light van), in order to start working towards either qualification.
Driving Goods Cehicles are available to young people aged 16 – 24 under the Apprenticeship programme or Adults aged 25 and over through Train to Gain or similar.
