This short programme provides an overview of how to make use of information gained from serial data and diagnostic trouble codes.

Programmes are individual and stand-alone; it is not necessary to complete all modules but it is recommended that they are studied in a specific order as each programme builds on the knowledge gained on the previous sessions. The suggested order is: Basic Electrics, Multi-meter use, Electronic Ignition, Electronic Fuel Injection, Engine Management, EOBD and Diagnostics.

Course programme

Due to the enclosed nature of modern electronic systems the characteristics of diagnosis has changed. Specialised equipment is now a necessity if these systems are to be investigated and repaired. This programme is designed for experienced vehicle technicians working in the motor industry who wish to enhance their knowledge of OBD (on-board diagnostics) and routes and diagnosis. It is suitable for technicians with both limited and in-depth knowledge as a large majority of the information covered can be tailored to individual needs.

Quality assured awards (QAA) allows specific subject areas to be taught and certified by the Institute of the Motor Industry Awards Ltd, helping technicians maintain a level of continuing professional development.
An IMIAL (Institute of Motor Industry Awards Ltd) quality assured award (QAA) in the recognition of OBD (on-board diagnostics) and routes to diagnosis.
Candidates will be subject assessed on the day of the programme and successful candidates will be notified on the day.
