Network Fundamentals
- Identify and describe the functions of each of the seven layers of the OSI reference model
- Identify the functions of the TCP/IP network-layer protocols
- Identify and describe the transmission mediums, Physical Layer devices and their associated limitations
- Define and describe the functions of a MAC address
- Describe the techniques for IP address management
- Identify network and routing protocols
- Describe the functionality of internetworking devices
- Describe the functionality of network topologies
- Describe and apply the stages involved in network design and documentation
Routing Protocols and Concepts
- Identify elements of a router
- Demonstrate understanding of the techniques of how to configure a router
- Identify problems that each routing type encounters when dealing with topology changes, and describe techniques how to resolve them
- Describe the techniques for loading and backing up IOS software image
- Demonstrate understanding of routing and routing protocols
- Demonstrate understanding of the commands required to configure access lists on the route/
Switching
- Demonstrate understanding of implementing Variable Length Subnet Masking (VLSM)
- Demonstrate understanding of the commands required to configure and monitor intermediate routing protocols on the router
- Describe benefits and advantages of LAN segmentation using a range of network devices
- Describe full-duplex and half-duplex Ethernet operation
- Distinguish between cut-through and store-and-forward LAN switching

- Describe the operation of the Spanning Tree Protocol and its benefits

Where will I study?
Baltic Campus
You'll be based at our fantastic £39million Baltic campus on the quayside. The campus has a prime location on Gateshead quayside, and state-of-the-art facilities including a Jacuzzi, gym and sauna, a 200 seat theatre, state-of-the-art classrooms, training kitchen and restaurant, refectory, bistro and vending areas.
How will I be assessed?
On program assessment is administered online though Cisco academy assessment server by multi choice tests as and a final online assessment. Students will also be assessed by practical assignment and in some cases a case study.
How will I be taught?
All our staff teaching on this programme has been trained through Ciscoes Network Academy CCAI Instructor program. Teaching will be a mixture of lectures, online curriculum self study and practical labs/worksheets.
All course materials are part of the Cisco Network Academy Curriculum.
Gateshead College has a dedicated networking lab with all the Cisco equipment needed to complete the CCNA.
What qualification will I get?
This program is accredited through the OCR iPRO Certificate for IT Practitioners (ICT Systems Support) at Level 3.
On completion of CCNA 2 and 4 students will qualify for a discounted voucher which can be redeemed against the professional certification INTRO and ICND respectively, which make up CCNA Certification. These exams are administered through Pearson VUE.
Can I go onto further study?
The Cisco Networking Academy Program provides the opportunity for two levels of certification, Cisco Certified Networking Associate (CCNA) and Cisco Certified Networking Professional (CCNP), designed to meet employment standards for the networking industry. CCNA and CCNP certifications are part of the Cisco Careers Certification program.
Other levels of certification, including the industry renowned Cisco Certified Internetworking Expert (CCIE) are available through Ciscos corporate training program. F

Key skills are not offered as part of this course.
