This course is intended for those who have some previous experience of using a computer and want to gain a qualification recognised by employers. Ideally you should have some knowledge of Word Processing, be able to open, save and print your document.
Entry qualificationsKnowledge of using a computer.
Information about the courseIn order to achieve full certification, candidates are required to pass three assessments in class.
Students will be offered a set of progressive exercises in each topic, followed by a practice assessment and then the final OCR assessment.
At the end of the course you should be able to understand the basic concepts of computing, how to organise and manage folders, create documents, the use of spreadsheets, charts and graphs and be able to create simple presentations.
Course contentUnit 1 - Word - Create and manage folders, insert and format text, set margins and line spacing, insert borders, headers and footers including automatic fields, bullets and numbering and tables.
Unit 2 - Excel - Enter and edit data, use formulae and basic functions, create charts and graphs, use headers and footers and autofilename.
Unit 5 - Powerpoint - Set up a master slide, input text and images and shapes, use headers and footers and print in various forms.
AdditionalityAll learners at West Herts College take part in an initial assessment in Maths and/or English. This helps us to ensure everyone reaches their full potential.
All course materials will be provided. This will include a memory stick and student workbook.
You will need your Student ID card, Learning Agreement and Invoice as these have your unique Student ID number for you to have access to a computer.
When will I receive my results?
Results will be forwarded on as soon as they are received at the college. Please note that certificates, where awarded, can take up to 4 months to be received at the college before forwarding on to learners.
AssessmentYou will assessed in class on each module and your work will be sent to OCR for final marking.
ProgressionAdvice and guidance will be given during the course on further learning opportunities.
