The Double degree program enables our students to gain professional experience through academic internships in a company or institution directly related to the scope of protection of intellectual property rights, while implementing and consolidating their acquired knowledge, always under the guidance of an experienced professional from the firm, company or institution where they conduct their internship.

The teaching methodology is based on the case method, understood as the use of teaching tools that are very close or virtually identical to those employed in the professional practice of law in the field of Corporate Law. Thus, the students engage in trial simulations, preparation of legal documents, negotiations, etc. Our aim is to train future professionals on what it means to be a lawyer and its social implications, as well as to master the tools that they will use as lawyers and gain a deeper understanding of the field of Intellectual Property, with particular emphasis on litigation as a tool to develop not only their procedural capabilities as future lawyers, but also other essential profession-specific skills.

About this course

Our goal is to enable our students to acquire the professional skills in accordance with the regulations governing admission to the bar (Law 34/2006 and its Royal Decree 775/2011), and pass the national entrance test to be convened annually, which is the final requirement, once the Master's Degree has been awarded, to be admitted to the bar.

Alongside such objective, the aim is to train top professionals in the field of intellectual property in the 21st century, enhancing the legal, economic and technical training of students, so that they may adapt to the real needs of companies, firms and organizations working in the field of intellectual property, specifically in the new market environment.

Therefore, the students will be encouraged to delve, in an integrated manner, into the legal, economic and technological areas of knowledge required for the specialized management that these rights demand in their various fields, and learn from the top professionals in the field of intellectual property.

This program covers the necessary contents that are required by the rules governing admission to the bar so that holders of a Bachelor's Degree in Law may engage in the legal profession as lawyers. Moreover, the training received by the students is supplemented with a second program, the Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property, offered by the Faculty of Law at ICADE.
Therefore, this program is especially suited not only to Bachelor's Degree graduates, but also to holders of a Licentiate Degree in Law who wish to receive more comprehensive and advanced training in the practice of law in the context of a Intellectual Property.
The admission process will consist in assessing the academic background of applicants by looking at their academic transcript and, where appropriate, requesting them to take an English test and attend an interview with the program's Joint Directors and/or Coordinator.

Holding a Bachelor's Degree in Law or equivalent that enables the students to acquire the knowledge, skills and legal competencies that are required to be able to engage in the legal profession (art. 3 Royal Decree 775/2011).
Having an academic record with an overall grade of remarkable (a score of 7.0) or higher in the Bachelor's Degree or equivalent program.
Providing proof of sufficient knowledge of English, particularly in the field of Law.

Given the new requirements for the practice of law, the Faculty of Law has proposed simultaneously pursuing two complementary Master's Degree programs, so as to meet this demand. This means that the graduates from the Bachelor's Degree in Law must study the Official Master's Degree for Admission to the Bar, a generalist program that provides them with the training necessary to engage in various existing legal proceedings. Moreover, these circumstances raise professional interest to specialize in Intellectual Property.

It is also worth noting some of the other advantages of the degree program: an essentially practical approach to the legal profession, the level of excellence and vast experience of the lecturers that constitute the faculty staff and the official in-company internship module that will allow our students to gain work experience in the most renowned firms, institutions, companies, organizations and government agencies in the field of copyright and related rights, including industrial property and new technologies.

Submission of applications: the admission application must be submitted before the deadline indicated to such effect, using the standard form and supplying all the supporting documents in compliance with the admission requirements: academic record or proof of the modules studied and completed at the time, the grades awarded, and proof of the level of English.
Personal interview with the Master's Course Directors: having examined the required documents, the candidate will be required to attend a personal interview with the Course Director(s)/Coordinator during which the candidate's legal competencies, argumentative skills, personal profile, motivation to specialize in Intellectual Property, interpersonal skills and ethical commitment will be assessed.
Admission decision and notification of acceptance: having examined the documents required, and once the personal interview has taken place, the decision on admission will be communicated to the candidate. The candidate may also check the status of their application through the Admissions Portal

Graduates from the combined degree consisting of the Official Master's Degree for Admission to the Bar and the Official Master's Degree in Intellectual Property can enter the labor market in a variety of positions and roles in law firms, companies, institutions, organizations and government agencies in the field of copyright and related rights, including industrial property and new technologies.
