The programme provides students with the opportunity to examine and critically assess key legal issues in the oil and gas sector both in the UK and in other leading jurisdictions. Courses offered cover licensing and other methods of state control of hydrocarbon resources, commercial contracting, regulation of the oil and gas industry, principles of environmental law and marine and coastal law. The intention is that by the end of the programme students will have developed the analytical skills and knowledge to provide them with a firm foundation for work in this sector.

Normally a 2(i) Honours degree in Law (or another discipline) or equivalent.

Syllabus
The following courses are available. Students must complete four courses and a dissertation. At least three courses must be taken from the list below. The fourth course can be taken from a different LLM programme.

Assessment
Assessment is based on a combination of coursework and a written examination. In addition, students must complete a course in research methods and a dissertation on a topic within the specialism. Guidance on the writing of a dissertation is given.
Teaching
Teaching methods combine lectures, seminars, project work, and independent reading.

24 or 36 months, part-time.
