About this course

Learners must have at least four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language, preferably at grade B, and Maths. Essential Skills not accepted. For those with fewer GCSE qualifications, work experience and alternative qualifications/diagnostic assessment may be considered. Interview required.

Course programme

You will have to submit a minimum of 15 written assignments - one for each of the units of study. Some units may require a presentation or a short class test. There will also be a portfolio of Research Skills to complete. You will be given a Pass, Merit or Distinction grade in each unit of study.

Learners can use this qualification as a route to apply for a place in a university to study for a range of degrees, for example, English, History, Social Work, Law and Nursing. South West College offers progression on to several foundation degrees including the Early Years, Business Studies, Sustainable Energy and Counselling among many others.
