Course programme

Overseas Nursing Programme (ONP)

Commencement: Sept 2009
Study Mode: Full-Time (Including Placement)

Course Overview

Overseas Nursing Programme, leading to Registration as a Nurse in the United Kingdom.

Course Introduction

This course has been designed in response to the changes required by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) for the preparation of Nurses, who are qualified outside EEA countries and now wish to practice within the UK.

Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) run 20 days protected learning programme under strict NMC guidelines and work with partner organisations for clinical placement and student recruitments. South London College (SLC) works with Universities such as University of Glamorgan to find a suitable ONP programme, clinical placement, English language classes and accommodations for overseas qualified nurses.

Components of the Programme

The key elements of the programme are a period of 20 days protected learning plus, where identified by the NMC in the decision letter, a period of supervised practice. This will be delivered as an additional requirement though the Supervised Practice Programme, which must take place in an area which has been acknowledged as a suitable learning environment. Similarly the letter will identify if only 20 Protected Study Days are required.
