Course programme

Our PADI Rescue Diver training is considered the very best available with courses being held regularly throughout the year. Conducted over two days at the weekend, the courses are a fun combination of self-study, energetic rescue skills practiced in confined (during the colder months) and open water environments.

The PADI Rescue program is divided between knowledge development and open water training. The knowledge development portion is handled through independent study at home in your own time - a video is available to aid learning but is optional. These materials give you the necessary information you need for preventing and handling diving emergencies, with topics including self rescue, diver stress, diving first aid, emergency management, equipment problems, and rescue and assistance procedures for both conscious and unconscious victims on the surface and underwater.

Open water training takes place at Wraysbury Dive Park near Heathrow (about 45 minutes away). There you'll apply the knowledge you've learned as you develop rescue skills. As you master rescue techniques you'll learn to adapt what you have practiced to suit the situation.

The course is designed to train individuals as safe self-reliant divers, learning to recognise and prevent potential problems, as well as being able to deal with a rescue situation confidently and effectively, should it occur. The training includes in-water resuscitation, accident management and self-rescue skills, plus much more.

We strongly believe that divers who have participated in the PADI Rescue diver course at SCUBA ZONE return to the diving environment as competent buddies to other qualified divers whilst showing an attitude of awareness and responsibility by their desire to obtain this valuable qualification.

It is a requirement that the candidate has been trained in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation techniques and basic First Aid. If you require this training our two evening PADI Emergency First Response course covers all necessary requirements.(Please ask for details) NB. You do not have to have completed the Emergency First Response course to start the Rescue Diver course or the other way around. You do have to complete both dive course programs to qualify as a Rescue Diver.

A FEW POINTS WORTH NOTING IN ORDER TO DIVE

FLEXIBILITY:
All courses and trips at SCUBA ZONE the are designed to fit around your busy lifestyle/schedule. There are many scheduling options you may choose to learn to dive, with frequent courses being run both here and abroad. For instance, you may want to finish your course abroad on an escorted trip with one of our Instructors or perhaps you would like to 'brave' British Waters! There are no time limits with the PADI system of diving, everything is performance-based and progressive - there are no pass or fail aspects to PADI courses either - we simply teach you until the course is completed. Whether you would like to dive here or abroad, in two days or two months time, we are here to help.

COURSE DETAILS:
All courses at Scuba Zone include the following - Personalised tuition, Student materials in a Crew Pack (Manual, Dive Planner, Log Book), Certification Card (if applicable) and all the equipment including dive computer. Scuba Zone do not add on hidden charges.

EQUIPMENT:
SCUBA ZONE will provide all scuba diving equipment for courses however we recommend that you have your own mask, fins or snorkel for courses. We have several starter packages with 10 to 15% discount available at both Dive centres. Please allow approximately 30-45 minutes prior to normal start time if you intend to get these on the day your training starts.

AGE AND FITNESS:
Anyone from the age of 8 years and upwards can dive as long as they are in general good health. There is a common misconception that you must be an Olympic Athlete to dive. This simply isn't true! The Open Water course requires you to be comfortable in the water and this is demonstrated by being able swim 200m. in the swimming pool at your own pace and to float or tread water for 10 minutes. Easy!

WHAT YOU NEED TO BRING:
Just a pair of swimming trunks, a towel and a smile! We supply everything else. Of course, if you have any equipment such as a wet suit or mask-bring it along! Once you have qualified we will need your passport photo in order for PADI to process and issue your certification card.

FURTHER DIVING:
Once certified you may be interested in developing your diving skills even further. You can gain tremendous confidence and experience by advancing your qualification to the next level in the PADI system. There are several ways of progressing and we would be only too happy to advise you on the best route to take. We also run regular Dive Club meetings (with a few beers!) and pool nights. We also organise escorted trips around the world and the UK to world-renowned dive sites such as Scapa Flow.

OPENING TIMES:
Both Scuba Zone diving shops are open from 10am to 7pm - every Monday to Sunday - yes 7 days! Again, we are flexible, if you need us earlier or later this can be arranged. Knowledge development sessions may be completed any time within these hours. Instructors are always on the premises.
