‘PAINTING THE HUMAN FIGURE'

Course Description:
‘Painting the Figure' will explore ‘ representing' the human figure in paint, and is accessible to all levels of ability from the beginner to the more advanced student. This course will focus in particular with methods of application, rendering, drawing with paint, limited flesh palettes and colour theory, as well as many other integral topics. Mediums covered will be oil and watercolour but the information provided will be relevant to all wet media. Please feel free to bring along any medium you might like to work with. Critique, demonstrations and worksheets will be available throughout the course for those who need them and a list of materials required will be available upon booking, all of which may be purchased from the tutor by prior arrangement.

Tutor: SEAN SLATER

Sean Slater is a professional representational painter and freelance illustrator based in Somerset. His work is concerned primarily with the accurate depiction of the natural world and the human form. Sean graduated from the Bristol School of Art, Media and Design with a BA (Hons) in Illustration and has since gone on to produce illustration and designs for a number of clients. His illustration, like his painting, largely focuses on the figure and it's qualities in portraying an evolving visual narrative.
Over the last decade Sean has completed numerous commissioned portraits and has exhibited in many group shows in the UK. In 2004 he co-founded the Line and Form art group, promoting figurative and representational painting in the South West. Since its conception the group has gone on to extend its programme to include many subjects and Sean remains the lead instructor for the majority of them. As well as this he teaches privately and has been employed by many groups to teach and demonstrate his approach to portraiture and figure painting.
