This two year qualification has been developed with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives to give an understanding of the legal environment. It is designed to assist Law firms to recruit talented, young people and develop them into fee-earning roles, as well as to train and develop existing members of staff. This Apprenticeship is a partnership between the employer, employee and college. It is designed to give students an insight into the legal profession. It provides an excellent training mechanism to provide routes into higher education. It is a structured programme of learning which combines work-based learning with academic learning.
This Apprenticeship will find you working as a Paralegal, undertaking a variety of tasks to support lawyers, including maintaining and organising files, conducting legal research, and drafting documents. They are also involved in a lot of different aspects of the legal profession and can assist in:
– Taking statements from witnesses.
– Interviewing clients and passing on relevant information.
– Researching cases and any pertinent legal information needed.
– Helping Solicitors/Legal Executives prepare for court cases, including opening and closing arguments and aiding in court pleadings or motions.

Entry Requirements

This is a Level 3 qualification and it is recommended that entry requirements to progress onto this Apprenticeship are: GCSE English and Mathematics – Grade C or above (or equivalent) 2 x A Level (or equivalent) – minimum Grade C.

Delivery and Assessment

Combining technical training delivered by industry experts with in work development, the Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services, has been designed by employers to ensure that it meets the legal sector’s needs. The programme comprises of the CILEx (Chartered Legal Executives) Level 3 Diploma in Providing Legal Services (competence qualification) and the Level 3 Certificate in Civil Litigation (knowledge qualification) which combined form the Advanced Apprenticeship in Legal Services (Trailblazer) Level 3. The competence element comprises ten units. These units provide the breadth of skills necessary for taking on a role in a modern legal workplace; - Business structures and compliance with legal, ethical and regulatory requirements in the legal sector. - Communicating effectively. - Drafting legal documents. - Managing files for legal matters. - Planning and managing own workload. - Conducting legal research. - Processing clients’ instructions. - Applying relevant costs and billing requirements in relation to legal matters. - Contributing to effective team working. - Maintaining and developing own knowledge, skills and competence. The knowledge qualification covers an Introduction to Legal Practice, Client Care Skills, Tort and Civil Litigation. The portfolio is evidence gathered during the course of the Apprenticeship to demonstrate competence gained. In relation to the knowledge qualification, an Introduction to Law and Practice is assessed by a multiple choice examination. Client Care Skills is a professional skills unit. This unit is assessed by CILEx written assignment tasks, delivered and assessed by tutors and moderated by CILEx. This unit will be graded pass or fail only. In relation to Tort and Civil Litigation, the learner will sit two 90 minute contextualised scenario E-exams set by CILEx. Results will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction.

Progression

After completing this standard, employees could potentially progress to the Chartered Legal Executive Apprenticeship or the Solicitor Apprenticeship. In a non-Apprenticeship role, learners wishing to progress their studies towards becoming a Chartered Legal Executive Lawyer can move onto the CILEx Level 6 Professional Higher Diploma in Law and Practice. After completing this and the required qualifying employment period, a candidate would qualify as a Chartered Legal Executive.
