This Award recognises previous study, qualifications and clinical experience as a Registered Paramedic, and is cognisant of the College of Paramedics recommendations for paramedics to have a level 6 educational background. In recognition of the busy working lives of the average post-registration paramedic student, this Award offers considerable flexibility in terms of module delivery, module choice, and mode of study. The vast majority of our students undertake their continuing professional studies on a part time basis, taking 2, or 3 years to complete their Awards. This fits in with their working lives and commitments.

Course programme
We recognise that students on this award have a professional qualification and are on a pathway of continuing personal and professional development with the emphasis on targeted Life Long Learning. Students are encouraged to develop the skills of reflection in and on practice and to question, develop and utilise evidence-based practice. The key skills are explored within the core modules (30 credits) and these are then applied to the vocationally focused option modules (45 credits).
Module teachers use a range of teaching and learning methods which include, student and teacher led activities, seminar and presentations, as well as directed study. The presentation of modules may be through class based work, blended or distance learning. Because of the breadth of health care provision we have a great variety of vocationally focused option modules and so the contact time for students will differ according to the student's choice of options.
Inter-professional learning is a key focus within the award as the range of modules are made up of the lifelong learning framework which are accessed by a range of healthcare professionals.
Many of the modules in the award have a strong clinical focus and many make use of the student's clinical experience. Some will also have a clearly identified clinical practice element.
A wide range of assessment methods are used within modules that make up this award. All the assessments are structured in ways that allow the students to focus on their own area of professional practice. As well as the use of written examinations and assignments there are viva voce examinations, poster and PowerPoint presentations. Portfolios evidencing student's academic and clinical work are also used. Many of the assessments also require the student to demonstrate reflection on their own professional development and/or clinical issues.

NURS60554 Leadership
